This project involved the design and installation of a highly complex flooring and surfacing package for a flagship showroom representing a world-renowned company. The scope showcased exceptional craftsmanship, material coordination, and precision execution across a wide range of premium finishes intended to elevate the brand experience and demonstrate product versatility at the highest level.
More than 20 distinct types of tile and natural stone were incorporated throughout the space, including intricate layouts, varied textures, and contrasting formats to create visual impact and clear spatial definition. The installation required advanced planning to manage transitions, alignments, and tolerances across multiple materials while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.
The showroom also featured large-format porcelain panels, demanding specialized handling, substrate preparation, and installation techniques to achieve seamless surfaces and precise alignment. In addition, complex resinous flooring systems were installed in select areas, integrating performance requirements with architectural intent and ensuring durability under high foot traffic.
Overall, the project exemplifies technical excellence, coordination across multiple trades, and the ability to execute sophisticated flooring solutions in a high-visibility environment for a globally recognized brand.
Nancy Thiel, founder and principal of Thiel Architecture + Design, is a licensed architect and an interior designer. With 40+ years’ experience working with luminaries in the architecture world, including Michael Graves, Robert A.M. Stern, and Rockwell Group, where she served as a studio leader, Thiel’s extensive portfolio includes single-family homes and multi-story residences, hotels, restaurants, retail, fitness clubs, offices, theaters, schools and shopping centers. She is a member of the AIA, holds NCARB certification and is a LEED accredited professional. Prior to her career in architecture, Thiel was a dancer and choreographer.
