Advanced Flooring Solution for Real-Time Crime Lab
This project featured a cutting-edge flooring solution utilizing Flexco Static-Dissipative (ESD) Rubber Tile, designed to deliver optimal performance and reliability for the lab’s advanced real-time crime equipment. The installation included 2,610 square feet of Flexco ESD rubber tile, chosen specifically for critical areas requiring static-dissipative properties. In less sensitive sections of the facility, an additional 5,310 square feet of Flexco Distinct Design 24″ x 24″ rubber tile was installed to maintain functionality and aesthetic consistency.
The project incorporated the use of specialized Flexco adhesives—PSD 805 and AW510—tailored to the specific needs of each type of tile. To complete the installation, 4-inch Flexco Rubber Cove Base was applied throughout the facility using Mapei Eco 575 adhesive for durable and precise adherence.
Preparation for the project involved meticulous substrate leveling utilizing laser precision, employing high-quality self-leveling products to ensure a smooth and stable foundation for the flooring system.
Nancy Thiel, founder and principal of Thiel Architecture + Design, is a licensed architect and an interior designer. With 40+ years’ experience working with luminaries in the architecture world, including Michael Graves, Robert A.M. Stern, and Rockwell Group, where she served as a studio leader, Thiel’s extensive portfolio includes single-family homes and multi-story residences, hotels, restaurants, retail, fitness clubs, offices, theaters, schools and shopping centers. She is a member of the AIA, holds NCARB certification and is a LEED accredited professional. Prior to her career in architecture, Thiel was a dancer and choreographer.

In 2022, the firm received a Connecticut AIA Excellence award for Interior Architecture. Thiel earned a BA from Penn State University and her Master of Architecture degree from Syracuse University.
