HTC Commercial Flooring installed custom floors at the kid’s center called Treetop Escape at The Arc Center located in West Chicago, IL. The goal was to create a jungle-like experience while using custom-printed Forbo sheet goods on the floors. To really make it convincing, we used the Forbo sheet goods and had a projector installed in the ceiling to show images onto the floors to create moving motions and give the feeling of running water. We installed the Forbo sheet goods using Taylor Resolute adhesives under the Forbo to ensure this flooring is not going anywhere. We knew this floor had to withstand all the foot traffic and sticky fingers and last a lifetime, therefore sheet goods are a great option, as it is easy to clean and have a high lifeline. The goal of this project was to create a fun adventurous space for kids to play and use their imagination, while also giving their parents a quick break. HTC had such a fun experience watching the creative process come to life, by turning this room into a real Treehouse Escape.

With 40+ years’ experience working with luminaries in the architecture world, including Michael Graves, Robert A.M. Stern, and Rockwell Group, where she served as a studio leader, Thiel’s extensive portfolio includes single-family homes and multi-story residences, hotels, restaurants, retail, fitness clubs, offices, theaters, schools and shopping centers. She is a member of the AIA, holds NCARB certification and is a LEED accredited professional. Prior to her career in architecture, Thiel was a dancer and choreographer.

The firm’s work focuses on high-end residential design as well as hospitality, contract, and retail projects. In 2022, the firm received a Connecticut AIA Excellence award for Interior Architecture. Thiel earned a BA from Penn State University and her Master of Architecture degree from Syracuse University.
