Renovation of an existing Middle School originally built in 1936. There were multiple additions to this school throughout the school’s history. This presented us with different age concrete slab constructions, with no moisture vapor retarder beneath the slab. Each slab presented its own challenge.
Different elevations required significant leveling and sloping. High moisture readings/no moisture vapor retarder in slabs required shotblasting, priming, and a moisture remediation product to be applied prior to installation of flooring materials. All of this work was done in the presence of multiple trades, all competing to complete their scope of work while the project was significantly behind schedule. Project struggled to maintain serviceable conditions and required two large remediation crews as well as 2 flooring installation crews working simultaneously to complete the project on time.

She is a member of the AIA, holds NCARB certification and is a LEED accredited professional. Prior to her career in architecture, Thiel was a dancer and choreographer.
