DTLA Large General Contractor HQ

Signature Flooring, Inc.

Design by: Gensler

Los Angeles, CA

Completed: 21-Jul

Signature Flooring was brought onto this project by a close General Contractor client who was establishing a new Downtown Los Angeles Headquarters. With Gensler sharing space in the existing 50-year-old high rise building, they were chosen to team up on this mini design building TI office space. Anytime you’re working with a General Contractor on its own office, it can be a unique challenge as it’s their business but also you want to perform your scope of work at a very high level.

Gensler selected most of the finishes however their choice of carpet tile, a Danish manufacturer with long lead times, wasn’t going to work. Signature presented different options to the GC client and they in the end selected EF Contract’s Simple Weave carpet tile.

The corridors feature a salt and pepper look polished concrete to aid in high traffic with low maintenance.

When it came to the breakroom café / mixed use space of the office, the GC had big things in mind. With being in Southern California and wanting to have an indoor / outdoor space for entertaining large clients, the GC brought in one corner of the 50 story structure to have an outdoor mezzanine. Ceramic paver tiles with drainage were used however inside proved to be a challenge with a polished concrete look desired. With height restrictions and aesthetics a concern, Signature used Ardex PCT Concrete Topping to tie into the outdoor porcelain and create a polished self leveled look to complement a new accordion style “bi fold” doorway.

Other manufacturers include Tarkett Baseworks Wall Base, and Armstrong Striations Tile in Back of house rooms.
