Herget Middle School had existing VCT that was failing. The installation was 20 years old. It was lifting off of the floor, cracks and joints in the concrete were not honored on the original installation. The original process was to demo existing VCT, 100% skimcoat the slab two times, and install 38,000+ SF of Tarkett LVT, 340 SY of Tarkett Walk Off Carpet, and 4,000 LF of Cove Base. The slab was tested for moisture with Wagner probes and with a consultation with Lew at LGM, we determined that we would mitigate the slab with a 2-Part Epoxy mitigation system and treat over 1,800 LF of joints and cracks in the concrete. No extra time was allowed in the schedule with the addition of all of this work. As soon as we were allowed on site we began work on June 2nd and were 100% complete before August 1st. The prep was Mapei Planiseal VS 2-Part Epoxy with Primer X and capped with Novoplan II. Spot patching was done with Planiprep SC.

She is a member of the AIA, holds NCARB certification and is a LEED accredited professional. Prior to her career in architecture, Thiel was a dancer and choreographer.
