This is a brand new Indigenous casino near Edmonton, Alberta. We worked with the architect and the Milliken design team to orchestrate this challenging installation. One of the patterns consisted of 25 different individual 1m x 1m tiles and the other was a 4 tile arrangement. Our installers had to follow the installation guide to the letter to pull this off, including a large circle in the middle of the casino on the gaming floor. The indigenous design went together perfectly. The Daltile porcelain tile in the front entry and washrooms was also a challenge, with the large circle and quarter circles cut into the tile on site by our talented installers. The Gerflor Creation 55 LVT was installed over Gerflor Smartfix pad in a herringbone pattern in the restaurant area. Johnsonite Cove Base (4″ and 6″) was installed throughout.

With 40+ years’ experience working with luminaries in the architecture world, including Michael Graves, Robert A.M. Stern, and Rockwell Group, where she served as a studio leader, Thiel’s extensive portfolio includes single-family homes and multi-story residences, hotels, restaurants, retail, fitness clubs, offices, theaters, schools and shopping centers. She is a member of the AIA, holds NCARB certification and is a LEED accredited professional. Prior to her career in architecture, Thiel was a dancer and choreographer.

In 2022, the firm received a Connecticut AIA Excellence award for Interior Architecture. Thiel earned a BA from Penn State University and her Master of Architecture degree from Syracuse University.
