Manistee Public Schools (MPS) in northern Michigan needed new flooring that not only represented their school, but also the northern Michigan way of life. MPS had decades old broadloom in their combined Middle and High School facility. HPS, in partnership with River City Flooring, chose products and a layout that would not only last, but speak to this famous “Up North” lifestyle. RCF removed all existing flooring and adhesives and installed a double skim coat of Uzin NC888. The school decided on J+J Kinetex for not only its durability and acoustic qualities, but also the design that it was able to achieve. Over 70,000sf of Umbra was expertly installed (while maintaining a modified parquet method throughout the entire facility), all while meeting the deadline for school to start. The blue colors in the Kinetex perfectly speak to the lakeshore outdoor life that is Manistee.
Nancy Thiel, founder and principal of Thiel Architecture + Design, is a licensed architect and an interior designer. With 40+ years’ experience working with luminaries in the architecture world, including Michael Graves, Robert A.M. Stern, and Rockwell Group, where she served as a studio leader, Thiel’s extensive portfolio includes single-family homes and multi-story residences, hotels, restaurants, retail, fitness clubs, offices, theaters, schools and shopping centers. She is a member of the AIA, holds NCARB certification and is a LEED accredited professional. Prior to her career in architecture, Thiel was a dancer and choreographer.
