Garmon and Company is proud to submit the St. John’s Episcopal Church project for the Best Flooring Solution category. This project demonstrates how strong project leadership, manufacturer partnership, and technical expertise can transform an evolving client vision into a successful, high-quality flooring solution that meets aesthetic goals, budget requirements, and schedule constraints.
The end user for this project was a church congregation that initially had evolving goals and a developing vision for their flooring needs. Garmon and Company’s project management team worked closely with the client to refine and translate their ideas into a clear, achievable design solution. Through ongoing collaboration, education, and value-driven guidance, our team helped streamline the client’s vision into a cohesive flooring plan that balanced design intent with performance, budget, and constructability.
This project was made possible through the close partnership between Garmon and Company and Daltile. Daltile worked directly with our team to identify and deliver the best material solution for the client’s needs. As part of this process, Daltile custom sourced and produced a 13-piece custom Versailles-pattern slate-look ceramic tile, sourced directly from their Brazilian quarry. This custom material solution allowed the project to achieve the desired old-world, European-inspired aesthetic while maintaining durability and long-term performance.
The final design was introduced as a late-stage change from the original project scope, significantly increasing the level of project management, coordination, and technical planning required. Despite the late design shift, Daltile was able to meet both the project’s pricing parameters and project deadlines. This change also increased the technical complexity of the installation, as the large-scale, multi-piece, interlocking pattern required advanced layout planning, dimensional control, sequencing, and continuous pattern verification across the space.
Uzin floor preparation products were utilized to repair substrate damage, patch and level irregular areas, and create a suitable surface for the complex patterned installation. Given the scale and precision required for the multi-piece layout, proper substrate preparation was critical to supporting accurate layout, lippage control, and long-term performance. Uzin systems played a key role in enabling the detailed planning and layout required for this installation.
In addition to material and installation coordination, Garmon and Company’s project management team provided added value by coordinating and assisting with pew and furniture removal. This was especially critical due to the presence of fragile woodwork and architectural elements throughout the space, as well as the delicate new tile. Our team carefully sequenced protection, removal, installation, and reinstallation activities to minimize risk to existing finishes and ensure a smooth, respectful construction process within an active worship environment.
This project reflects Garmon and Company’s solution-based approach, combining industry expertise, close manufacturer collaboration, and hands-on project management to deliver a successful outcome. Through close partnership with Daltile and Uzin, our team delivered a flooring solution that transformed uncertainty into clarity and resulted in a refined, durable, and visually impactful finished space for St. John’s Episcopal Church.
