This project was “imagined” in 2021 to revitalize the Atrium at the University of Alberta’s Stollery Childrens Hospital. The renovation took over a year to complete. The existing Subway Tile Floor had to be abraded, skimmed, sanded and recoated several times using Ardex TL1000, Ardex V1200, Ardex P-51 Primer and Ardex Feather Finish to get the floor to the state where it could accept the Tarkett iQ Optima Sheet Vinyl. All of the designs were hand cut and scribed on site, with the visual intended to be bright and cheery and to mimic Edmonton’s iconic North Saskatchewan River running through the area. This was a very challenging project starting from the takeoff (using Measure Square) to the floor prep right through to the installation and heat welding. It was comprised of 1430 square yards of sheet vinyl and 6200 lineal feet of heat welding. After it was opened to the public a few weeks ago, my son in law, who is a pediatrician doing regular rounds at the hospital overheard a 3 year old girl saying “This place is MAGICAL!”
I have included a grainy “before ” photo of the space for contrast.
