This project for the West Aurora School District was 20,000 SF. It had an existing poured urethane sport floor that had to be demoed. The material did not come up well, so we had to bring skidsteers on site to assist with the demo and disposal. The moisture content in the slab was above Tarkett’s recommended RH levels, so we had to mitigate the slab. We ground the slab to remove any bond breakers and provide a CSP of 2-3 for the mitigation system. We used Mapei Planiseal VS 2-Part Epoxy, Primer X, with a cementitious cap of Mapei Ultraplan Easy. We installed Tarkett Omnisport 8.1mm Sport Floor with heat welded seams. The layout we needed to provide was for 3 basketball courts, 3 volleyball courts, and 12 badminton courts. All of this needed to be completed before the middle of July so that the school could start fall sports training. We ran into hurdles along the entire way, demo problems, slab/moisture issues/ slow pace of sport floor installation.

She is a member of the AIA, holds NCARB certification and is a LEED accredited professional. Prior to her career in architecture, Thiel was a dancer and choreographer.
