Withersworldwide was a project that achieved high-end design with a limited budget. The design team incorporated unique, yet challenging design elements to create a fresh new space for this law firm. ASD/SKY worked with Shaw Contract to select carpet styles from the Community Collection, Authenticity Engineered Wood and Compound LVT…for a truly comprehensive flooring portfolio from Shaw Contract. A dominant feature of the flooring design was two different colors of Authenticity Wood which came together on a 45 degree angle with two major curves that followed the soffit line above. The design team opted out of a Schluter metal transition between the two colors. Since we had two cut raw edges coming together without a T&G to hold it down, we had to achieve a very flat subfloor and our installers worked carefully to maintain the transition and plank line-up throughout the installation.
Nancy Thiel, founder and principal of Thiel Architecture + Design, is a licensed architect and an interior designer. With 40+ years’ experience working with luminaries in the architecture world, including Michael Graves, Robert A.M. Stern, and Rockwell Group, where she served as a studio leader, Thiel’s extensive portfolio includes single-family homes and multi-story residences, hotels, restaurants, retail, fitness clubs, offices, theaters, schools and shopping centers. She is a member of the AIA, holds NCARB certification and is a LEED accredited professional. Prior to her career in architecture, Thiel was a dancer and choreographer.

The firm’s work focuses on high-end residential design as well as hospitality, contract, and retail projects. In 2022, the firm received a Connecticut AIA Excellence award for Interior Architecture. Thiel earned a BA from Penn State University and her Master of Architecture degree from Syracuse University.
