This was a renovation of the YMCA’s existing locker room in Waltham, Massachusetts. The Locker Room is located in the heart of the building and the rest of the facility remained open and active while we worked to renovate the Family Locker Room. Our scope consisted of self-leveling the existing slab before installing 5,500 SF of floor and wall tile including (4) bathroom stalls, (3) handicap restrooms / showers and (10) non-ADA showers all with pre-sloped pans and waterproofing. As the schedule was continuously delayed, our schedule was compressed into just (2) weeks.
The self-level and setting of the pre-sloped pans were completed in (4) days, leaving just (6) days to install all the large format tile on the floors and walls, as well as the mosaic tile on the shower floors. By utilizing a 4-man day crew and a 4-man night crew, our team was able to hit the deadline averaging about 460 SF of tile installed and grouted, or 115 SF per team member, per shift.

She is a member of the AIA, holds NCARB certification and is a LEED accredited professional. Prior to her career in architecture, Thiel was a dancer and choreographer.
