Spark Awards – 2017 Most Maximized Budget – North Mountain Middle School – San Jacinto, CA. Signature Flooring, Inc. Suppliers – Armstrong, Johnsonite Approached by the San Jacinto Unified School District in the Spring of 2017 with a set flooring budget for a new Multipurpose Room and Gymnasium at North Mountain Middle School, Signature Flooring was able to provide its client with a custom designed floor to meets its needs and stay well within its financial allocation. Without a traditional interior designer or architect, the district sought out Signature’s advice after its past performance on both new and renovation services. The middle school, North Mountain, was seeking a cost effective floor that would perform for its various needs. Initially the district looked to use a rubber sheet floor for the Gymnasium and Multipurpose room based upon other previously installed areas. For the Gym & Multipurpose Room, a renovated 12,000 structure, a rubber flooring complete with basketball and volleyball painted lines proved to be more than double what the district could spend. After meeting with various local manufacturer representatives to find a more cost effective solution, Signature presented San Jacinto USD with the option to utilize Armstrong’s Custom Excelon Basketball Inset in lieu of the Rubber sheet flooring. Completing the design, Signature opted for Armstrong’s Striations Bio-based VCT for its close wood aesthetic. At the three-point arc, baselines and painted key, Signature used Armstrong Feature Tile to offset and provide the needed distinguishing lines. To highlight the design and maximize the budget even further, Signature contacted Floor Pro Binding in La Mirada, CA who water-jet cut the North Mountain “Huskies” mascot and interlaid it within the VCT design. While the initial rubber sheet flooring, without any game lines or layout, budgeted out at north of $110,000.00, the Armstrong Custom Excelon Inset, with Striations and Water Jet cutting at half court, proved to be a much more cost effective measure at less than a third of the price. With the Gym also functioning as the school’s Multipurpose Room, the VCT design can also now complement both needs.
